You really need to focus on your application. All the top schools clearly mentioned that visiting campus has ABSOLUTELY no impact on your admission. The value for campus visits for the schools: they can track to see if running these programs will impact applicants' decision to apply to their school. The value for you is you'll learn a little bit more about the school. Best time to visit is spring.
If you are applying for 2015 admission in Round 1, then you should visit the schools, if you are tight on budget and applying for 2014 admission in round 2, you should focus on your essays and learn about the school through contacting schools. (for example, Columbia will let you get in touch with student ambassadors and I found them very helpful)
