It might be misleading as based on my experience, applying for top bschools is much more competitive in China than in US. Many Chinese applicants are from consulting, IB and PEs. LZ's background with an F500 is not weak, nor strong, while other factors might be more critical.

Thank you so much. I think so and I am working harder to get other critical factors more to my advantage rather than to the opposite.....

4个原因都不够有说服力。

我给一些朋友的建议是，试着把你申请MBA的理由看作是GMAT里面的逻辑题。这样的一个argument从critical reasoning的角度去看是否能被轻易削弱？你读MBA是为了更好的职业发展机会，但是辞职似乎使4个理由都没有说服力。

如果还在职，那么1和3都是挺顺理成章的，学校对你读书的动机不会有太多疑问。在工作4-5年这个年龄段读书的动机恰恰是不会被学校太挑剔的，但是辞职申请会让学校担心你的成熟度和计划性。万一你今年申请不到学校怎么办？这样其实无形中降低了你的竞争力。当然，这也跟你申请什么样的学校有关。前十的学校，背景跟你相似的申请人有不少，为申请而辞职并不是一个非常聪明的举动。另外，从这两年申请的情况来看，工作经验在整个package中占的比重越来越大，这点需要引起重视。

我相信楼主对自己有充分的认识，在职业上也明白自己要走的路，但是MBA本身是个游戏，需要认清它的规则。另外，这个版上绝大多数的朋友都还在奋战申请，他们的意见会很有帮助，但多跟post-MBA的朋友聊聊，可能你会得到更多的启发。最后，要相信自己，最终决定你能否脱颖而出的是你自己的故事、决心、思考和策略。加油！

Yes, you get my point! I see why you want an MBA, but pls really dive very deep into yourself and figure out a well-thought story to convince the AOs that you deserve a seat, just like an entrepreneur who is to pitch a VC.  

Personally, I would advise working for one more year as an option...

Yup. But you know in this case there is no way back to the company I just left. It was a beautiful and rational "divorce" but a re-marriage this soon would not be possible... So I guess except for doing better, maybe I should also lower my goal to around Top 20-30.  Do you think I'll have a better shot there?  Or even school ranking around 30 will stereotype me as a dubious candidate? x__x

真是一个好帖子，我也有这样的困惑，也是一家500强外企sales and marketing, 之前一直兼职做ngo，今年出来全职做，顺便也作了自己的start up，结果现在申请就面临了断层，很多人建议不要从non profit的角度申请，因为bschool觉得对在中国做non profit的人mba没什么帮助(真的这样吗？)，但从start up角度，现在初级阶段income真的很低啊，学校为什么很care这个呢？

谢谢Tianya111　！　不愧是版主级别的人物呀，你的分析中肯到位，对我真的非常有帮助。　最重要的是，从这些回复中我感受到了你对于ＡＯ心理的剖析，这点很重要，也提醒了我要不断换位思考去修正自己的故事线。　是啊，我这回算是要做个rule breaker了。　我能做的就是好好努力，希望有一天自己的经验可以成为反面教材中的正面例子。　ＰＳ：　今天当有还在职的小朋友问我要不要辞职申请，我果断告诉他们不要。　　所以各位对我的教导我已正确传达造福更多人了。。。　　再次感谢！！

Working for another year might not necessarily mean returning to your previous firm. You might also work hard to make your start-up take off.  

You definitely have a better chance for lower ranking schools because of less competition. However, top schools, say, top 15, would generally be more worthwhile going for in terms of spending $150k and two years, and more importantly, the network with the smartest and brightest people.  

Be realistic, but don't simply pre-assume which tier of schools would better guarantee you a spot. Quitting job is not advised, yet not the end of world either. You can do a lot to make up. Do the research. Talk to alums. Know where is your chance and how you can tell your story well. Successful applicants start with knowing whom they are, what schools have to offer and how to link the two together.
