Graduate Research Assistant (PhD Student)

Multiple PhD (graduate research assistant) positions within the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at Mississippi State University (MSU) are available and well-qualified applicants are sought. The PhD student will work under supervision of Scott M. Thompson (Assistant Professor in ME).

A full Research Assistantship with tuition waivers will be provided. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen. The research will be heavily coordinated through MSU’s High Performance Computing Collaboratory (HPC²) and the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS). Office space will be provided. The applicant can start as early as January 15th, 2014.

The applicant should be interested, and have some background, in thermal/fluid science, numerical modeling (i.e. CFD) and computer programming. The project focuses on 1) code development for the thermal design aspects of ground vehicles and 2) the use of numerical heat transfer/fluid mechanics for novel heat exchanger design using supercomputing software. The applicant must have earned a BSME or MS by December 31st, 2013.
