我是这样理解的〜。OG意思是说，去了that，使的破折号之后的句子感觉上是修饰整个主句（what the anthropologists believe.),就成了个令人困扰的修饰了（rhetocally puzzling)，因为它实际要解释的是前面主句里的that从句。。所以，that不能删去。

至于最后一句。。。我也至今苦恼着

但reducing可以作为结果状语或者伴随修饰主语或者suffer 就没有B直接加that来的明确了
我是这样理解的

还有 加at是因为 如果直接用some time表示将来某个时间吗？
