还是比较的省略——关于比较中含时间状语但是比较对象非状语的情况

楼主是一个一直对比较中的省略非常迷的人TT。。。
即使看了一些大牛的总结，在实际运用的时候常常还是摸不着头脑，不知道什么时候该省什么时候不该省。
尤其是一些句子省的真的只剩“唯一的区别”了，这种情况经常出现在含有时间状语的情况下。
下面两道题，第一道OG特意告诉我们不要用knowledge和time相比（即去掉主谓有歧义），如果按这样解释，那岂不是第二句话是在用price和time相比咯？
求大牛解释！！！

另外想问的是，这两个句子能被归于状语比较吗？

我觉得这两个的情况还是不同的...would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic这里前后补全是demographers would have to know a great deal more than they know now about the social and economic。而后一题是Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than the heating-oil prices last year.这里前后subject相同，比较的就是不同时间段的这个东西本身，省略没问题；但是前面比的不是demographers本身啊，所以谓语动词不能省略要补出，动词补了主语肯定不能跑了，所以就都补出了。两个不一样吧

know great deal than ..do
this year than last。。
