单纯比较C和E的指代，明显 ...

many可以指代前面的任何名词？ 可是前面只有people是复数啊 指代population的话也是应该用it吧  我就搞不懂为什么说many是unclear的 希望再指导一下

我的理解是OG这里的解释不太对。
Them没有指代问题，就指people，有问题的是many of them。
注意many of them are...结构有主语也有谓语，是一个independent clause，但是在和另一个句子（前句）连接的时候居然没有任何连词，仅用一个逗号就隔开了，标准的run-on sentence，错误。
