it应该是只能代指某件object，establish a permanent colony in America指代不了，所以只能用so.

Manhatten 里面有个例题的：
The police have significantly reduced violent crime and are pleased with themselves for doing so. (不能用it)

解释里确实说用so指代比较好。。。我8月5号上海，加油！

剛好看Manhatten關於這部份的... SC 5th P234
"do so" can refer to an entire action, including a verb, its objects, and its modifiers.
"do it", the pronoun "it" must refer to an actual noun antecedent. 必須有可指代的名詞才可以用,我是這麼理解的

到此A. E.排除
C. D.我說不出來什麽錯誤,不過,化簡之後, the settler did not at XXX, but.....感覺是缺了謂語,所以排除....
