正解是B，请问E选项我觉得很平行的结构啊，错在哪里？
而B选项were as disturbing to his own time怎么理解？

这里比较的是，ＴＥ＋Ｃ（这是一个compound noun，你懂的，谓语复数） 现在的影响和过去的影响一样。
这是两个不同时间段的比较。  
所以，要注意，需要补出谓语。
不能单独看平行^^   要认清楚句子想表达的意思。

所以补出也不对
而且正如楼主说的前边have been也有问题，
