OG13 sc #17 sunspots题

嗯og13的第17题还没有很懂。。。不知是不是自己钻牛角尖的缘故？
问题贴出来先：
17. Sunspots, vortices of gas associated with strong electromagetic activity, are visible as dark spots on the surface of the Sun but have never been sighted on the Sun's poles or equator.
a. 如原题
b. are visible as dark spots that never have been sighted on the surface of the Sun
c. appear on the surface of the Sun as dark spots although never sighted at
d.appear as dark spots on the surface of the Sun, although never having been sighted at
e. appear as dark spots on the Sun's surface, which have never been sighted on

OG对c，d的解释都是although引导的从句没有subject，但是我在想有没有省略的可能呢？就是c：appear on the surface of the Sun as dark spots although （they are）never sighted at
如果不能省略的话，那og13,14题又怎么解释呢？
贴出14题的正确句子吧~Rising inventories, if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead to production cutbacks that would hamper ecconomic growth.
这里面if引导的句子也是省略了主语的吧？为什么这个又是正确的呢？
求解答语法小白疑问~谢谢~

非常好的问题，我也做些功课。
连词分为三类，并列连词如and，从属连词如although/if，第三类叫Correlative conjunctions，不好翻译，如both . . .and，either . . . or等；
一般情况下从属连词although/if等只能连接句子，但是if的用法比较灵活，有省略的情况。具体你可以参考以下网址的第6条。http://www.yygrammar.com/Article/201111/2688.html

这样的啊~所以你的意思是if可以省略但是although不可以省略咯？潜意识里都把although当成可以省略了。。。

although在所有我见过的GMAT的题目中不连接完整句子的选项都是错误的...

关于这个省略的解答是这样子的~
appear on the surface of the Sun as dark spots although （they are）never sighted at 你看，补出来的是they are 确实省略了主语没错，但同时也改变了原句的完成时态；所以说是不可以省略have been 这样的结构的。

Laurie~~~抱住~哦原来是这样~这样解释那果断舍弃c。。。

另外感觉了一下，用but的话需要逻辑和语法结构都平行，语义方面强调的是but后头的部分；但是although明显是从句，应当是强调主语，所以也改变了意思。
