我也做错了，但是重新思考了一下句意。大家看能不能这么理解：
Like the grassy fields and old pastures（ that the upland sandpiper needs for feeding and nesting when it returns in May after wintering in the Argentine Pampas）, the bird itself is vanishing in the northeastern United States as a result of residential and industrial development and of changes  in farming practices.
like后面接了俩名词后，是一个大大的定语从句，可以框起来不看；然后主句的谓语部分 is vanishing从句意上来说，the grassy fields and old pastures和 bird都是可以vanishing的，所以具有可比性。
我一开始做错，是受了前面从句部分的影响，认为草原是bird赖以生存的地方，所以它生存的地方和它本身，是不可以用like来做平行对比的。
其实句意要强调的不是他们谁依赖谁生长，而是这两者都在消失。

这样就通啦。

可以这样理解吗：
1：like+名词
2：vanishing 是动名词 在GMAT中 要按照动词来理解 所以不平行  就这么简单 排除掉

Manhattan里面的点说到过: concrete noun (refer to things, people, places)和action noun(refer to actions, usually come from a noun)是不可以混淆平行的。grassy field 和old pastures明显是concrete noun但是A选项里sandpiper vanishing属于action noun。

这里并没有违反like+名词的点，因为vanishing并没有跟在like后面而是和like后面的名词进行比较。

您误解我的意思了：我是说，like+名词，主句主语+谓语
这里的like后的名词与主句主语需要绝对平行 就是说属性也要完全一样  所以 您说的grassy field 和old pastures 与 sandpiper vanishing  不管从词意上+形式上 都不可以并列 平行

like需要绝对平行（可以看曼哈顿-like 的比较必须是严格对称的)  比如grassy fields and old pastures 和 vanishing 从意思+词性 都不对应  因为vanishing是动名词 依然是动词  相反 grassy fields and old pastures 与birds 对称  

大家看下曼哈顿，绝大部分需要绝对平行  只有一个特列是：whereas连接的平行比较只要求对比的核心逻辑上有对称关系，不要求对称位置必须是对称名词，
