是啊,当时确实贴了错了，造成理解麻烦不好意思~关于此题，这里还有个问题：
a phenomenon that most scientist agree is caused by human beings in burning fossil fuels 这种表达能否说通？还是必须是a phenomenon that most scientist agree is caused by human beings' burning of fossile fuels...? 谢谢！

我会觉得第一种用法不好，
先看in的用法；while doing something or while something is happening, and as a result of this
                        例句；In trying to protect the queen, Howard had put his own life in danger
也就是in和by在这个句子里都是因为……造成……

“sth is caused in” …… 由……导致  。“ sth is caused by ”     因为……原因
举个中文例子。1；环境问题是由于污染千成的    2；环境问题是由于官员不作为造成的。
                         但是我们不应该说环境问题是因为官员不作为由于污染造成的（如果有两个原因可以并列，或者递进不能直接放到后边）

但是如果这个句子改成这样；我觉得应该没有问题，即去掉In

a phenomenon that most scientist agree is caused by human beings burning fossil fuels

当然，很多错误不同的人看到的不同，我只是从我的观点分析一下！ 不知道云游兄以为然否？

嗯，可取，明白OG上所说的indirect的意思了，global warming因为human being由于burning...这样确实不是好的表达~
