http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/like_5

like
1         in the same way as. Some people consider this use to be incorrect:
No one else can score goals like he can!
Don't talk to me like you talk to a child.
2 like I say/said         spoken         used when you are repeating something that you have already said:
Like I said, I don't mind helping out on the day.
I'm sorry, but, like I say, she's not here at the moment.
3         informal         as if. Some people think that this use is not correct English:
He looked at me like I was mad.
It looks like it's going to rain.
This meat smells like it's gone bad.

结论是like在书面语中做连词被认为不是正确的英语,只是在口语like I way/said中使用。

只是注明这个词条有争议,并没有说只是口语用.不知道你从那里得出来的口语中才能做连词。

事实上like 作为连词的用法在美国英语里很普遍,
口说无评还是各凭证据说话;注意这句话after 600 years of use, conjunctive like is firmly established.
以下是like这个词的起源演化
Like has been used as a conjunction since the 14th century. In the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries it was used in serious literature, but not often; in the 17th and 18th centuries it grew more frequent but less literary. It became markedly more frequent in literary use again in the 19th century. By mid-century it was coming under critical fire, but not from grammarians, oddly enough, who were wrangling over whether it could be called a preposition or not. There is no doubt that, after 600 years of use, conjunctive like is firmly established. It has been used by many prestigious literary figures of the past,

like用来表示比较的时候,后面只能接名词或者代词,不能接介词短语、不定式等结构。

为什么不能?是like本身不能,还是gmat不会考?

来源;柯林斯大词典

CONJ-SUBORD    Like is sometimes used as a conjunction in order to indicate that something happens or is done in the same way as something else. Some people consider this use to be incorrect.
People are strolling, buying ice cream for their children, just like they do every Sunday...
人们在闲逛,给孩子们买冰激凌,就像每个星期天一样。
He spoke exactly like I did...
他的话跟我的一模一样。
We really were afraid, not like in the cinema.
我们是真的很害怕,不是像看电影时的那种害怕。

你可以看一下第四版manhattan语法书,第121页
Uke vs. As
Like and as are two very common comparison signals. You should learn to distinguish
between them.
Like is a preposition. This means that LIKE must be followed by nouns, pronouns, or
noun phrases.
Never put a clause or a prepositional phrase after like! (Remember, a clause
contains a working verb, one that can be the main verb in a sentence.) You can correctly use
like to compare two nouns.

我来总结一下 ;

like ;根据mahhatan的语法不能用作连词。
like;在各种词典当中都可以作连词,其中有的词典注明用法有争议。

但是就我个人感觉顶多gmat不会考这样的争议点,就像楼主这道题一样D,E没有介词in.
而绝不会没有别的错误只是因为like作连词的错误。
楼主自己取舍。这道题也该结了。

补充一点;mahhatan并不完全代表gmat,经常他们自己也是烦恼不矣,所谓的manhattan语法必须根据gmat真题不断调整(Our SC Guide reflects the usage we had observed on the GMAT, but this question will give us cause to reflect.
这是M官方就一道题发表的意见

y'know what, i've actually seen this one firsthand. much to my chagrin, it's legitimate.   i'm still seething at the use of "these" as a standalone pronoun. this is one of the worst sentences i've ever seen.
