Assistant Professor of Operations and Technology Management at
IE Business School
Zhijian Cui earned his PhD in Operations Management from INSEAD (France), an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University (U.S.) and a Bachelor in Engineering from Tsinghua University (China).
Zhijian’s research is focused on the management of collaborations and conflicts in new product development (NPD) process. In particular, his research looks at three key aspects of a R&D organization: (1) strategic motives of knowledge outsourcing; (2) the interaction between knowledge partner selection and management efficiency; (3) the incentives and decision power in a development team. As an expert on NPD and knowledge outsourcing, his work has been published in top-tier academic journals such as Production and Operations Management, as well as practitioner journals such as Research-Technology Management and received numerous awards from different academic entities. He is also an active member of INFORMS (Institute of Operations Research and Management Science) and PDMA (Product Design and Management Association).
