Doyou agree or disagree with the following statement: The opinions ofcelebrities, such as certain entertainment and athletes, are more important foryounger people than older people.
Coupledwith the information dilute and over-advertising is the individual conformityto the commercial guidance, which renders the opinions come from celebritieswho are admired by thousands of millions more influential and decisive. In myperspective, what celebrities think are more important to younger people thanolder ones, which is apparent and prevalent.
Firstof all, younger people have hardly built up their own value system andtherefore are more susceptible to others’ opinions while it is less likely forolder people to be influenced by extraneous opinions rather than their ownneed. Younger people with little experience is not qualified to know what theyneeds and where lays their best benefits, which makes them likely to look foropinions to follow. For instance, when a high school student couldn’t decidewhich cell phone meets her needs best and suddenly saw her favourite singer isusing a particular cell phone in the immense and gorgeous advertisement, shewill soon made up her minds regardless of whether the cell phone advertisedreally suits her. In retrospect, she might regret choosing the cell phonesimply for the opinions of her favourite star while this is not that likely tohappen with regard to a well-established gentleman who knows clearly what heneeds.
Moreover, since most celebrities, such as certain entertainment stars and athletes, areat a relatively young age, the closeness between whose age and the demographicgroup of younger people makes celebrities’ opinions more appealing to youngerpeople than to older ones. Common sense informs us that at different stage oflife, people have sharply different requirements and expectations. Forinstance, if Justin Bibber claims that he likes mountain-climbing, youngerpeople will be more likely to be motivated to try it out while it would be lesslikely for older people to take up such a demanding sport. It is the same storywith clothing style and so on. It is hard to imagine a senior man dressed likeMichael Jackson. The closer in age, the more alike their tastes and interestsare.
Finally, younger people, enjoying more free time and less stress, are able to devotemore time to keep track of the opinions of the celebrities when older peopleare more busy and occupied in general and thus seldom concern the opinions ofcelebrities such as entertainment stars and athletes-they might have totally noidea who on earth is Justin Bibber and why so many girls go crazy for him. Asthe familiarity is the prerequisite of trust and influence, with littleknowledge about the opinions of celebrities, it is impossible to rank theopinions of celebrities as more important, if of importance at all. On theother hand, younger people who are glued to the TV and Youtube are soprofoundly influenced by the opinions of celebrities to a point that they can’trealize it clearly.
Inconclusion, due to the absence of a well-established value system, the closenessin age and the familiarity with celebrities, the opinions of celebrities are,in general, more important for younger people than older people.
