这道题有意思,问到as在(E)中的用法,回帖特别少。

我在这边做个大胆猜测:

like/as的混合考题中,都是表示“像”的意思,不同的是说,like是介词后面跟名词,而as应该是连词,后面跟句子,所以我有点不是很同意前面说as是代词意图指代前面整个这句话。我觉得as has been the case more recently很可能是个倒装,未倒前是as the case has been more recently,用the case这个新名词来指前面整个这句话。

没有过多的理论根据,在薄冰语法的倒装部分看到这么一句句子:

有时倒装结构为助动词+主语+(主要动词),如:

John was taken completely by surprise by the news, as was Susan.这消息完全出乎约翰的意料,也完全出乎苏珊的意料。

大家继续讨论。

以下是引用seekmydream在2005-10-13 8:05:00的发言:

Q31
In the sixteenth century, the push for greater precision in measuring time was (not, like more recently, motivated by complicated philosophical questions about the nature of matter and the universe, but the practical matters of navigation):sailors simply needed more highly accurate timepieces in order to compute their longitude from the positions of the stars.
(E) motivated not by complicated philosophical questions about the nature of matter and the universe, as has been the case more recently, but by the practical matters of navigation

as 做关系代词引导一状语从句表示与主句的相似性;like则跟一名词结构表相似性,且比较的是主语.

as has been

the case more recently = as more recently the push for greater precision in measuring time has been motivated not by complicated philosophical questions about the nature of matter and the universe...

意思是:就象 最近 对时间的量度要求更精确的现象的出现 不是由复杂的关于物质和宇宙的哲学问题引起的 一样,在16世纪, 对时间的量度要求更精确的现象的出现 不是由复杂的关于物质和宇宙的哲学问题引起的,而是由航海的实际问题引起的.

用 has been the case 概括了与主句相同的部分,类似的省略在比较句中也很多,OG和大全都有,一下找不出来,只记得大概是: 主 谓 宾(其中有比较级)than it was ten years ago. 而主句的主语和谓语并不是对应的it was.

同意这个解释。但是as has been the case --> the case指的是motivated by complicated ......还是motivated not by.....呢?

引用Mgmat Ron大神的解释:
CORRECT ANSWER (e)

* good parallelism:
BY complicated philosophical questions... after "not"
BY the practical matters... after "but"

* this is the TRADITIONAL USE OF "AS", to refer to a CLAUSE (note that there is a TENSED VERB "has been").

you should think of FORM OF "BE" + THE CASE as an idiomatically correct expression (i.e., there doesn't have to be a subject). it counts as a CLAUSE, since you have a tensed verb.
if this expression comes at the BEGINNING of a sentence, then you use "it" as the subject (no antecedent needed): "IT is the case that..."
this is in much the same way that you'd say "IT is impossible that...", etc.
