Prep 212&216 比较省略求教！！！

Prep08笔记 212中写到"比较从句的主语和谓语与主句的主语和谓语相同时，可以全部省去，常常保留做状语的介词短语或状语从句。"但是在216里面写到"主语若相同，可省，但助动词不能省。" 并举例As a result of the continuing decline in the birth rate, [fewer people] will enter the labor force [in the 1980’s] than (few people省略)did [in the 1960’s and 1970’s], a twenty-year period during which people born after the war swelled the ranks of workers. 感觉有点矛盾，这里的did需不需要哇？

我觉得不能省吧，加上did，强调的是比较people。等待NN给确切答案。
