Claim: Imagination is a more valuable asset than experience.
Reason: People who lack experience are free to imagine what is possible without the constraints of established habits and attitudes.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
In contemporary society, there has formed a trend in the public that innovation is the most marvelous things in the world, and people who own such capacity has been revered and admired for their fabulous imagination. For example, Jobss, who found the Apple, the hottest enterprises in the world, has been regarded as the leader of the era. He obtains myriad eulogies, and their products like Ipod, Ipad have revolutionized the mass perception for electrical devices. Everyone ascribes his achievement to his imagination, which is not fettered by the stereotype ideas. Apart from Jobs, numerous other instances of the same sort might be multiplied indefinitely, but this will suffice to support the view that imagination creates possibilities and push the world forward.
However, the speaker’s claim and reason based on it appear to be too absolute, while neglecting the significance of experience. Admittedly, every new product and thought is originated from new discoveries and invention, but the process is bridged by the experience and established principles. Also take the Jobs as the example, when we marvel at the beautiful design of his products, we should notice that his innovative perspective to the aesthetics of products is due to his once trials and study on the calligraphy. Though when he learns this skill, he has never thought someday he will put this principle into the manufactures of Mp3 and cell-phones, it is this experience that changes his view to design of product and spur him to propose a unprecedented construction that is welcomed by the public. Therefore, after he eventually makes it, his previous experience in another field should also be emphasized.
Besides, sometimes imagination without any foundation of perceiving current situation, theories and facts is more like an illusion. Just as Utopia, once stirred the whole world and drew a blueprint for the human race. Nevertheless this thought still stays at his primitive stage, and such kind of society has not any possibilities to come true because it negates defects of the real society and people’s nature like greed, self-fish, pomposity, sadness. But they are also indispensible part of our daily life. Without taking the established habits and attitudes into consideration, it is simply a hallucination and only serves the function of palliating dejected people. Therefore, imagination lack of practice won’t create any valuable things, and is labeled as preposterousness.
In sum, as the saying by Newton “if I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants,” imagination and experience is not mutual. As long as we do not accept those established principles as doctrine but utilize them flexible, they will breed each other, and contribute equivalently to the final success.
