对比下A和E的句子主干: A:The trenches that..., have yielded evidence for...societies that were arising... E:The trenched cut...have yielded...evidence that...societies...arose...
主要区分点: 1)that从句和V-ed修饰名词(个人觉得都可以)
2)evidence for / that(A的错误点) 摘自曼哈顿: V-A-N Pattern 2: that从句(含动词)> 介词短语(含名词) 表示idea的名词如hypothesis / idea / suggestion / belief / discovery / evidence / indication / report,特别适用于此pattern
摘自版版的千行: "evidence for" is used for some argument or position, not for some thing that once existed. e.g. "evidence for the atkins diet" would be evidence showing that the atkins diet is a good thing. In this case, you could say evidence OF complex societies (= evidence that they existed); however, FOR is nonsense, because we aren't talking about a position that can be substantiated.
3)were arising / arose(A的错误点) 同样摘自版版的千行: "were VERBing" implies that the process was going on at the time, but that it didn't necessarily finish. "were arising" this tense doesn't make sense. This is an isolated historical event, so it should be expressed in the simple past. This tense is used to describe something that was going on when something else happened.
