就像scientist 不能can not determine thetransition from one season to the next by monitoring temperatures on a dailybasis，他们也不能 determine ......

A whereas 是做比较中的转折，但原文是类比 而不是转折。
B 留着
C  Like scientists who ，they 这个句子 明显错误，they指代scientist ，scientists like scientists ，都是同种人还用like 么。
D in as much as ，这个prepositon  in ，什么 in ，不之所云。a scientist ,和 they.
E a scientist ，后面是they. 而且 这有个陷阱，大家很容易忽视，in the same way, so ，用so 做connection 显示很奇怪，两个句子逻辑关系混乱。

补充一下，两个句子之间对比 用as ，不用like 之类。because of 插入语就直接忽视，干扰你而已。特别是 插入语中会有一些代词，然后后面的句子里出现 them ,it之类 与主句中的宾语或主语混淆。如果出现了，正确的句子会将代词替换成前面出现过的名词，避免歧义
