"English has a number of gender-neutral words such as 'person', as well as a number of gender-neutral pronouns such as 'anyone', 'everyone', and 'no one'. However, it does not have gender-neutral singular personal pronouns.

So I assume it applies to "those" here for the same reason.

这样为什么不行呢，这里很清楚指的是前面提到的how many languages in the world，补出代词并不会更清楚的表达这一点，因为前面有很多可指代的对象。
