答案为D.would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic
这里是“原句是know a great deal 和now （how they do）在比较，所以要加they do”吗？也就是主语比较。
那么我有一个疑问，联系到大全的一道题，如下~~
大全10. A large rise in the number of housing starts in the coming year should boost new construction dollars by several billion dollars, making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago.

第二题的比较中如果省略了it was，那么five years ago这个状语有可能是去修饰什么？ 如何引发歧义呢？

抱歉我还有问题，最近在看比较遇到的问题比较多，请见谅
1、A recent national study of the public schools shows that there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many as there were four years ago.（这个there were为啥用were不用Was呢？）这个 were怎么理解，指代的是什么呢？
