"Discovering" is gerund. how has "discovering" (the action) doubled?

the Manhattan also mention "verb is better than noun, then noun is better than gerund".

LZ自己对C都晕了，说明C肯定有问题
discovering的用法不如discovery好，明明有相应的抽象名词，为何还要用动名词的形式呢？

而且discovering会让人想问：是谁discover的？动作主语不清！

同理，excavating也不好。
