关于what作为名词的用法

这个好像MANHATTAN没有讲过，也就是说什么时候用what，什么时候用 名词+modifier 呢？

比如OG13的72： His studies of ice-polished rocks in his Alpine homeland, far outside the range of present day glaciers, led Louis Agassiz in 1837 to propose the concept of an age in which great ice sheets existed in what are now temperate areas.

比如OG13的12：
Carnivorous mammals can endure what would otherwise be lethal levels of body heat because they have a heat-exchange network that keeps the brain from getting too hot.

其实我也问的蛮模糊的。what 里面的结构应该是什么样的啊？


what + 系动词 + 名词/名词短语？


读的时候倒没什么问题，但不熟悉这种句式，自己不能很好应用的感觉

其实LZ只要记住“what只能作为名词性从句出现”就好了。
要么做主语，要么做动宾，要么做介宾

GMAT有时候会考What从句做定语的选项，肯定是错误的。

至于what从句的结构，就把what作为一个名词用就好了，名词作什么what就做什么

其实LZ只要记住“what只能作为名词性从句出现”就好了。
要么做主语，要么做动宾，要么做介宾

GMAT有时候会考What从句做定语的选项，肯定是错误的。

做的题太多了，一时没找到做定语的句子。。。
其实很好判断，一个是纵向看选项，有没有用which、that的从句，除了先行词其他成分跟what从句后面一样
再就是看what句子是不是作为主语、动宾、介宾出现的，如果不是，那么八成有问题了。。。
