Some people think that a university professor should focus on doing research;while others think that the main role of professor is to educate students in a university. what's your opinion and why?=================================================
In the modern society, there is an increasing number of professors workingin the universities. And in the meantime, whether the professors should focuson doing research or educating students is becoming a heated discussion inrecent days. From my perspective, I hold the view that professors should trytheir best to balance both sides.


On the one hand, conducting research can benefit the professor andothers. In the first place, researches can help the professors work out academicpapers. And if the professor gets his working paper published in an internationalmagazine, it will contribute to the professor’s rise to fame and raise theimpact of the university. What’s more, the research which they are performingmight have a profound effect on their country. For example, the famousscientist, Yuan Longping, who is an expert at hybrid rice, creates thegenetic-modified rice, boosts the productivity of rice, and solves the foodproblem troubled with 1.3 billion people. So in a word, it is beneficial forprofessors to do research.

On the other hand, the professors’ education to students cannot beoverlooked. There is a boost in number of students in universities. And in thisway, numerous educators are demanded. The students are eager in pursuit of knowledge.So in order to satisfy the need of students, the professors are bound to focusmore on teaching and supply high quality education. Furthermore, in spite ofthe fact that doing research is crucial, the education in university seemsvital, for students are the future of our country. If we do not educate themwell, the youngsters’ best time of their lives could be wasted. What’s worse,if the professors ignore the importance of education, the students’ attention willbe easily distracted by other things in society. For instance, they might beurged by idle personnel in society to gather together and do harm to thesociety—— smash and grab,set fire, and do burglary. So the consequence of professors’ being lack ofeducation for students is serious.

To conclude, the professors either solely concentrating on doingresearch or educating students is not as satisfying as we expect. Therefore, a sensibleprofessor should try to have him himself fixed on both fields to make a balancefor the students and their own sake.
