主要问题在C和D上。我选了D从表意来看：because it is so genetically similar是什么意思？从指代来看：很多人说看到划线后面的its就选C了，可是在its前不还有个this species吗？所以根本不会有问题。单复数：in the kind of struggles that limit(s)到底哪个对呢？这个我就不是很清楚了。
请NN们解答~~~~选C的话请解释一二两个问题。选D的话请解释第三个问题~~

species这个单词本身就以s结尾。
不过species是单复同形的一个单词，上面的理由不够充分。
但是后面原句中species前面是this，所以说明是单数。
好吧退一步说，假设这道题species是复数，this是these，如果they的指代the species，带入D中，The species are similar to one another，说不通吧。我看还是选C吧。

我平时问问题很少有人回答…… 就来回答一下你吧。

前面可以有they,ants这样的复数，这不像很多人说的看到划线后面的its就知道前面不能用复数了。因为its前有this species，它不用去指代前面的ants...

嗯，LZ想的应该没什么问题。C选项里面 in the kind of fierce intercolony struggles that limits
that只能修饰struggles，所以limits应该是错误的吧。。。
this species应该是单数，species是物种的意思。
查了一下字典，species这个词单复数都是一样的：【N-COUNT】  A species is a class of plants or animals whose members have the same main characteristics and are able to breed with each other.
有两个例句贴上来：
Pandas are an endangered species.
That genus of plants differentiates into three species

所以，我觉得后面的its应该只带this species没有问题
倾向选D啦，因为C里面定语从句主谓不一致是硬伤。

that后面是单数形式的动词，说明修饰的是 the kind of fierce intercolony struggles，  这应该没错。跳跃修饰。

1.分号前后是两个完整的句子，即使逻辑语义上可能会有关联，但是两者在句法上是没有什么联系的，这里because后面出现代词，一定要向后寻找其主句的主语，寻找指代对象。
2.that应该指的是the kind而不是struggles ，是（engage in） the kind of S——那个是动词短语用作动词。。。the kind of修饰S，用单数
本人支持C选项。。。。

D中的they也是向后指代ants啊…………你的第一个论点在C\D上都适用的。第二论点我是已经知道的，我也认同。但是我觉得很关键的在于前面similar那里用单数可不可以。如果可以，我也更倾向于选C，但就目前来看，similar比kind用复数错的更严重，所以我还是坚持选D。
请各位NN说一下similar这个点吧！！
