v-ing超级困惑了！！！

(B) as a method protecting
(C) protecting
(D) as a protection of
(E) to protect

答案选C，可是不是说，comma+v-ing一定是伴随或者结果，二者中一个吗？？
这里protecting算什么？！！
为什么E不对呢？

1.E选项中的to protect错误在于前面有个逗号，如果没有逗号是对的，但是细想想应该是V.....+to do---动作的目的是to protect，而前句只是一个shields，其本身是不能to protect的，只能说是“用shield to protect”
2.这里的protecting前面是系表结构shields were military equipment，那么就是修饰主语，给主语添加额外的补充信息，描述animal-hide shields的功能就是protecting。。。或者说补充说明这整个一句话的内容，记住是adverb modifier
3.关于主系表结构+， Ving——由于前面的主句中主要阐明了主语的一种属性：在这种情况下需要判断的是这个v-ing结构是否合理的阐明了前面句子成分的一种属性、状态、用途、目的等等，而就不要再硬性带入伴随状语或者是结果状语了。。。。

to do 为什么前有逗号就错了？

额。。。。。亲。。。逗号后面是不可以加to do这种不定式的，因为to do的功能和动词一样，但是亲有木有发现这里我们需要的是一个修饰成分，来修饰主语。。。。还有您可以想一下：A is B，to do这样用很奇特不是吗？Jim is a student,to sleep....这哪有logic呦。。。。。
