Twe 005 A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory?

The issue of whether it is worthwhile to build a large factory near our community is a controversial one. When facing this question, different people present different answers due to respective experiences and standpoints. Some claim that a large factory will make our community more prosperous. Others, on the contrary, hold the opinion that a factory may deteriorate our community’s environment greatly. As far as I am concerned, I would rather agree with the former than the latter. The reasons are listed as follows.

To begin with, a large factory will create many jobs for the community. Nowadays, with the decrease of investment, the economy situation in our town is not as good as before. Many people lost their job and lived in a poor station. However, building a large factory could change this situation to some extent by creating job opportunities. On the one hand, to build the factory will need truck drivers, carpenters and other kinds of workers. On the other hand, when the plant begins to do business, a large number of workers, sales persons and management staffs would be hired. Hence, local people could easily find a job that suits them well in the factory and earn enough money to support their family.

Next, the factory could largely increase the tax-income of our community. According to the regulation of business law, every year the factory should turn in part of its profits as tax to local government. Such increased tax-income could be used to improve the local area’s infrastructure facilities, like paving new roads or building multi-functional sports centers. For example, because of the population growth, there are not enough sports facilities for people to use in our community. If a multi-functional sports center could be built in this area, local residents would definitely get more chances to do physical exercise and keep physical fitness.

In addition, other business such as entertainments and restaurants will be promoted by the establishment of the factory. For example, after finishing a whole day's laborious work, workers usually go to cinemas to watch a fancy movie in order to have a relaxation. Along with the development of such business, the prosperity of the community will be further enhanced.

Of course, building a large factory has its own disadvantages to some extent. For instance, the factory may generate much noise and bring much more traffic jam. However, if all the factors are contemplated together, the advantages of building a factory carry more weight than those of disadvantages. For the reasons which have been discussed above, it is safe for me to draw the conclusion that building a large factory is beneficial to our community.
