B中没有that,so that结构不完整,C中用了they,变成修饰features,但是后面是calls an XXX明显说的是 a sculptured portrait
please refer to PREP 2008 GRAMMAR Notes (P18): 738. The Emperor Augustus, it appears, commissioned an idealized sculptured portrait, the features of which are so unrealistic as to constitute what one scholar calls an “artificial face.” A. so unrealistic as to constitute B. so unrealistic they constituted C. so unrealistic that they have constituted D. unrealistic enough so that they constitute E. unrealistic enough so as to constitute Key: A If "so as to" cannot be followed by an action verb, why "constitute" is OK in this case? And I am wondering why B and C are improper. -- by 会员 meimeijulia (2012/11/2 11:22:12)
