Young people today are more likely to help others than young people in the past.
Perhaps no issue in this modern society is as significant to human-beings as receiving a hand from others when they face the difficulties. Despite various opinion people may have on the issue that whether the people today are more likely to help others compared with the past, I, given the chance, strongly endorse that people are willing to help others in this times because of the following aspects.
To start with, with the development of the modern society, more and more people who previously just struggled for their basic needs have improved their basic living standards dramatically. On one hand, as the salary has dramatically increased compared with 30 years before, people are more likely to have foundation, the monetary ability, to help others. They have garanteened their basic needs already. On the other hand, the young generations now not only chase their basic needs of life, but also emphases the spiritual satisfaction. According to the Marslow's Hierarchy of Needs, after people are satisfied with their basic needs, they start to acquire the needs of respects from others, especially for self-actualization. It is no doubt to say that helping others is a good way to satisfied the needs of the human-beings, no matter physically or mentally. Here is a recent survey, conducted by the China Daily in 2011, after researched 1000 of high-paid employees worked in the companies in Fortune Magazine. The result analysed by SPSS shows that there is a positive correlationship with happiness and 3 factors: social relationship, basic satisfied needs and spiritual realizations. Accordingly, it is undeniable to say that helping others is a way to realize self-actualization of human-beings, which, in return, can ignite the enthusiasm of people to help others.
Moreover, people are now more convenient to help others, which means lots of platforms are provided to people to get access to the latest information and makes the helping process more transparent. Not only can televisions update the latest news and information, but internet plays an pivotal role. People can see the pictures of victims, which are posted on Weibo, "Twitter of China", by polices immediately from the abductions happened recently. People who witness any clue can provide the information via computers directly. People are much easier to know what happened in a second all over the world. Another example also can back up my point. My college roommate, Lily, is a girl from a underprivileged family in Guizhou, one of the southwest cities in China. Her parents, the wheat farmers, actually can not afford her tuition and daily spendings. Then Lily had to write an article posted on the local newspaper to show her situations and burning ambitious to be a student. Subsequently, she was offered the scholarships from the university and received extra subsidiaries from the society to relieve her financial burden. Information channels improved also is an important reason that people are likely to help others.
To sum, young generations in this modern society do realize the importance of helping others compared with the early generations. It is no need to garanteen that the wind of this harmonious social atmosphere will blow through continuously.
