曼哈顿中指出：if the intended antecedent of a single pronoun is clear(e.g., by virtue of parallelism and meaning),and if there is no other reasonable antecedent, they don’t worry if there is an unreasonable antecedent somewhere else in the sentence.

如何根据meaning来判断it是否有指代ambiguity的问题呢？



如这道题：we finally choose the coffee table towards the back of the store, because we thought that this table would complement our living room furniture.

曼哈顿中说，这里this table不用it 来代替，是怕产生ambiguity的问题，因为it 可能被认为指代store.



我是这样分析的：

但是从meaning 上来说，it 只能指代table，而且，如果指代store 也不是一个reasonable的先行词。

所以，问题是：到底要怎样从meaning 和reasonable上来判断it的指代是否会产生ambiguity ??

其实感觉上并不是从meaning下手的，而是根本就不用思考meaning，如果前面是：单数N...单数N.....,it(什么都不看就是感觉it可以指代N1，也可以指代N2），LZ举得句子就是这个意思，但是如果前面很是明显的表明：复数N。。。单数N。。。，it（那it肯定是N单）

pronoun ambiguity一般来说


你可以这样想，首先要agreee in number（也就是所谓的单复数一致）


再来就是make sense（如果存在两个同时合理的antecedent，here is the ambiguity issue）


更容易的理解：


你可以去看看题目的选项有没有做出pronoun和实体名词的区分：


例如OG12#75：  A proposal has been made to trim the horns from rhinoceroses todiscourage poachers；thequestion is whether tourists will continue to visit game parks to see rhinocerosesonce the animals' horns have been trimmed.


这题考pronoun ambiguity特别恶心，像这题，tourists根本不是合理的逻辑指代对象，但是做出了split，你就要知道OG认为它是有歧义的；考点就有pronoun ambiguity这点


当pronoun和concrete noun 做出了split（这时候有99%以上的可能你就遇到了pronoun ambiguity的考点）：如上 75题


当你没遇到split，OG就默认了pronoun这个指代是没有问题的，这是你要做的就是去找出这个合理的指代点：


OG12#6   In late 1997, the chambers inside the pyramid of thePharaoh Menkaure at Giza were closed to vistors for cleaning and repair becausemoisture exhaled by tourists had raised the humidity within them to such levelthat salt from the stone was crystallizing and fungus was growing on thewalls,（这里them的指代是没有问题的，5个选项的them都没有做出区分）

明白啦！只要看选项有没有split就可以啦~ 谢谢哈~~！当它所指代的那两个名词都是合理的话，就可以用这个ambiguity的点来直接排除选项；当它所指代的那两个名词有一个是明显不合理的话，是不是就不能直接排除，要其作为判断剩下的两个选项的最后依据呢？是这样理解吗？？

LZ可以再看看DD举的例子，其实对于代词的考点，其实就是和具体名词的PK，一旦有了具体名词，也就是split，我们可以很自然的将有代词选项排除。。。。而对于其他的情况，也就是选项全都是代词，那我们不用在意这代词是不是指代歧义啦，因为木有split。。亲。。
