[奖学金] Post-Doctoral Fellow on Spintronics in the Department of Electrical and Electro

Applications are invited for appointment as a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) on
spintronics in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, from
as soon as possible for initially one year with the possibility of renewal.
Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in Physics, Materials Science,
Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, with background in
theoretical and computational Physics. Experience in modeling, programming,
and microelectronics would be an advantage.
The successful applicant will join a multi-institutional interdisciplinary
project in Hong Kong to carry out state-of-the-art research in spintronics.
Project Theme:
The core structure of a spin transfer torque (STT) device consists of two
ferromagnetic layers separated by a very thin non-magnetic layer. When the
current flows through one of the thick ferromagnetic layer (called fixed
layer), it becomes spin polarized and will exert a spin torque on the second
thin ferromagnetic layer (called free layer). The study of STT devices has
triggered extensive research interest both in academia and industry. The
potential application of STT includes spin torque oscillators for microwave
oscillator applications. When the free layer magnetization is driven into
steady precessional mode, the emitted radio frequency (RF) magnetic field
can be utilized as information carrier for communication. In order to use
such devices for telecommunication, the electromagnetic (EM) field
distribution needs to be calculated. The effect of EM field on the
oscillation characteristics of the STT devices also needs to be solved. In
this project, the candidate will combine the STT macrospin and
micromagnetics models with the EM field solver.
自旋电子学是一个发展迅速的热门研究领域。自旋电子器件的核心部分包括三层。 两
层铁磁性薄膜被一个非铁磁性薄膜隔开。其中一个铁磁性薄膜比较厚,叫做固定层。另
外一个铁磁性薄膜叫做自由层。当电流流过固定层时,普通的电流会变成自旋 极化电
流,自旋极化电流流过自由层时候就会驱动自由层的磁进行均匀的震荡或者进动。这样
整个器件的电阻会变化。所以这个效应可以用来做自旋振荡器。主要应 用之一就是电
讯通讯等。为了实现通讯的应用,自由层磁进动时发射出的电磁场需要确定。同时空间
传播的电磁场对自由层磁进动的影响也需要确定。这个项目的主 要目的就是解决上述
问题。
