（1）D.their last scheduled day 指“they有很多个scheduled day ，而last只是其中最后的一个，明显不符合句意。

        E。the last day that they are scheduled to collect则表达清楚：直到最后一天，然后用同位语从句说明“最后一天就是指他们收取severance packages的那天”

（2）D。 in order to collect中 in order to 是多余的，直接用to就足以表明“去收取”这个意思了。（象E一样）

PS：1.同位语与that引导的定语从句的区别是：在同位语从句中，that在从句中不充当任何成份；而在定语从句中，that在从句中是要充当成份的。

         2.本题中的collect与题中的available一样，都是指对scheduled day 的“收取”，而不是指“工人的聚集”。（从句意上看）

         3.E中的they很明显是指workers,因为the last day that they are scheduled to collect是属于从句which require workers to stay until 的成份，因此从其归属的句子来看，豪无异议的应该指其中的workers,因为其中没有其他成份可指了。

in order to 虽然没有 to 简洁，但也并不是不可以用。而且，我认为E并不是同位语从句， the last day 和 that they are scheduled to collect 并不构成同位语，两者是不可替换的。若其为定语从句，则that应改为 on which 来指代 the last day。此处与 the same year ......that是不同的。

E省略了最后的the package, 补全应该是which require workers to stay until the last day that they are scheduled to collect (the package)，这样就顺了

D中的in order to多余

我选了d,但是从出题者的角度出发，我觉得应该选e,e中的they很明显是workers，因为后面出现了指代workers的they,一句句子中的同一代词指代相同事务，d的that也很容易解释，如果查字典就可以发现，that可以当when,in which用跟在the day后面。不过d太不简洁了

我觉得d不适合当答案的理由就是，如果ets要给答案，一定在这个句子中不会用in order to,用to，e的形式也不符合正确答案形式。将一个分词提前一般不对。

请大家继续给出依据，真得很矛盾！

首先，大量数据表明，their/his/her last scheduled work day 是英语国家普遍使用的一种表达方式，所以关于D中last scheduled day的种种非议皆不成立！

其次，collect我怎么看都是跟拿钱有关的，E中表达方式造成歧义，scheduled to do sth.，好像colllect跟schedule有关

还有，in order to比起to是不简洁，但不能算绝对错误，与E相比，可忽略不计！而且GWD中有无数类似的案例说明，到这一步再不能死抠语法点了，能表达清楚意思的就是正确的！

坚定选e，理由如下：

从语法上看

D中  解雇费的领取要求工人呆到最后一天目的是为了……，很明显，这里 in order to 的主语是severance package,但这明显说不过去，此处collect是领工资的意思。

E 中the last day that they are scheduled to collect,这里they肯定指代worker ,是说工人门领取解雇费要求呆到发工资的那天。句子意思非常清楚。

从句子意思的结构上看，D是说与大多数公司停薪费的支取要求工人呆到最后一天是为了………不一样，汽车公司对停薪费的支取没有要求。

而e中说的是，与大多数公司解雇费的领取要求工人呆到发工资的那天不一样，汽车公司对停薪费的支取没有要求。
