想跟大家讨论一个argument的题。

In a study of the reading habits of Waymrsh citizens conducted by the University of Waymarsh, most respondents said that they preferred literary classics as reading material. However, a second study conducted by the same researchers found that the sype of  book most frequently checked out of each of the public libraies in Waymarsh was the mystery novel. Therefore, it can be concluded that the respondents in the first study had misrepresented their reading habits.


我开始觉得这个结论的一个可疑之处在于：第一个study的respondents可能没说实话。但是后来一想好像不对啊，这个argument的结论就是这些respondents没说实话，这样反驳是错的。对吧各位。重点在于，misrepresent 理解为故意说谎呢还是没能准确表达的意思。要是故意说谎的话， 我刚才说得那个反驳的理由就是不成立的了，各位怎么想

第一，第一次study所选取的研究对象是否具有普遍性，能否代表waymish citizen的preference；如果第二次的研究是正确的，也不能推翻第一次研究的结果；因为很有可能爱文学作品的人都是自己去书店买书或者在线阅读而不是去图书馆借书。

2楼同学，你说的这几点我知道，这几点我在文中也提了。我是想跟大家讨论一下，我刚说的那点是不是不对，因为那点我第一个提的。感觉有点obviously flawed了，这样argu就只有3分了，悲剧啊。
