hi，我在想这个evolve independently of the vertebrate eye，中的of是不是和independently是词组呢（而非和evolve一起组成词组）？牛津中independently of 表示独立于。若此，这句话解释为，昆虫眼睛的复杂结构，解释了为何科学家认为昆虫的眼睛进化是独立于脊椎动物的眼睛的。不知道如此解释可否？

I am still confused with the use of with. Could we use "with" modifiy the preceding clause or just modify the noun before comma？ what is the differeces between "with preposition phrase"and "Ving"?

查了字典assume的名词形式是assumption，所以assuming只是动词的ing形式，是不能用所有格的
