为什么D错呢？我不理解，读读也通的啊。
对于 正确答案E，我不能理解thus是什么成分，when是不是引导条件状语从句而非时间有大牛可以解释一下嘛？跪谢~~

D项although改变了原文意思，原文是不管heat and pressure是否移开。但although似乎在陈述一个事实仿佛heat and pressure一定会被移开。因此改变了原文的意思。
E项中的thus可以代替 this way, like that, as such, in this way. 在题中应该代替this way。

      关于even when我个人觉得是引导条件状语从句。

看过另一个解释觉得也蛮对的："in this way" would NOT be fine, because no "way" has been described. in fact, no adverb is present at all to be properly parallel to "in this way" (an adverbial construction); diamond is most certainly not a "way" of doing anything.
而E选项的thus可以代表一种状态，也就是保持是diamond的这种状态
