97. Colleges and universities should require heir students to spend at least one semester studying in a foreign country. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position. Should all college and university students be required to spend at least one semester studying in a foreign country? It seems plausible. Study abroad could absorb with foreign culture, enrich the life experience, and increase one’s academic abilities. However, it’s unpractical for all the students. I will make further discussion on the next. It is tempting to suggest that students spend at least one semester studying abroad, to gain more advanced knowledge as well as to access the different lifestyle. Indeed, if every student could have the opportunity to study abroad, why not to do so? Nevertheless, there are many severe problems to take the recommendation into practice. Until we solve the problems could render the recommendation become reality. The primary problem I found is the tuition. Who should take responsibility for students’ cost studying abroad, since governments and schools unable to afford all the tuition, the nation students choose and the major they interested would influenced. In the first place, the tuition study abroad must higher than two or more semesters’ fee studying in our country, with large quantity of college and university students at present, government as well as schools cannot provide enough expenses, so the provider turns to parents. In the second place, in order to save money, students would choose the cheap fee country rather than the most look forward. Thereby, studying abroad lose its own essence. The second problem in the statement is that the difference in education system between foreign country and our nation. If students study abroad, what they have learned is incompatible, more or less dissimilar in the curriculum, how should schools transfer their credits, meanwhile, the culture is totally different, what if students could not adapt to the new environments and face the conflict of culture. It requires all the students understand how to comprehend with each other and get along with foreign friends in a smooth relationship. A third problem is how to guarantee the personal safety. Should the program unified by schools to organize or students themselves to apply for? Distribute students to different schools or to different countries is unwise, studying abroad in some worth-lacking schools is waste of time. Admittedly, the recommendation is warm-hearted that schools hope students could gain more experiences and learn advanced knowledge.after all, students as well want to go abroad that attracted them for longtime. However the limited condition impede the recommendation become practical,we should come up with other methods to makeup the space. Firstly, studying abroad is not obligation. Schools should depend on the real case and follow students willing. There is no necessary to set out a semester for students studying abroad. Secondly, school could invite all kinds of individuals, from experts, officials, educationalist to scientist, from foreign country in which they did well in their unique fields. Finally, schools could suggest students have a further vision after graduation within more income and experiences, combine with one’s interest and demand. Under the circumstance, could all students express their talents during the colleges or universities, finally walk near to success. In sum, colleges and universities require their students to study in a foreign country are not practical, but to a certain degree, it will help students a lot. Anyhow, we still have other methods to enrich students life experiences and academic abilities. |
