How to test the reasonability of anargument? The author says that it is the ability to convince opposing peoplethat counts, since in the process of defending an idea, one really discoversthe value of the idea. I totally agree with the speaker. Canons are alwaysbeing discussed before the maturity of it, and they even are being argued afterthey are known to the world. This opinion can be true in many fields, especially in the political, philosophy and physics field. In the political arena, a good idea or asignificant decision has to be made after fierce discussion. Debating is soimportant a way that anyone in the party or the other parties has to agree onthe idea and as a consequence, the idea can be comprehensive and beneficial tothe state. Someone will argue that debating of a law or a bill is a waste oftime in many situations. But it cannot be regarded as a waste of time; withouta discussion, the idea is just a thing which only a small part of people comesup with, many flaws and even faults are in the decision. After all, thedecision is always considered in some people's interests, which lead to manyother people's interests being undermined. When it comes to philosophy, the opinionthe speaker and I choose is even more reasonable. As is known to everyone, philosophy, metaphysics particularly, is a discipline that needs debating.Dating back to the Aristotle age, people who are studying in philosophy in theMedieval Age is just discussing questions about life every day. For a simpleexample about what is the meaning of life, lots of different ideas emerges inthe history, say, Christians think of it as a way to pay back, hedonists thinkof life to be a process of enjoying oneself, a Marxist will regard life as astruggle toward the fulfillment of communism, and so forth. The debate will goon without pause and without terminate. Even to some extent, it is thosediscussions about the essence of life that contribute to the emergence ofvarious religions in the world. In the physics field, the exploration inwhat is the basic component is an old topic from the ancient world. Peoplethought of atoms as the basic and the least composition of materials in the Thompson’stime. But when humans step in the age some years after, the finding of quarksmade the atom-theory tenuous. And even in the world we are in now, a new theorynamed "String Theory", which means that anything in the world iscomposed with neither granules nor waves, despite it haven’t been totallyproved yet. The scientific world is developing in the process of people'sdiscussion even from the time of Aristotle all the way up to today. And peoplelearn more from those debates and fulfill a more convincing and more advancedideas. To sum up, the world around us is adebating world. If an argument is even accepted by a person with opposed viewpoint, this argument can be an idea with pretty value. No matter what field thisperspective is in, regardless in philosophy area, physics realm and thepolitical arena. To make a viewpoint convincing and persuasive, discuss with otherswith no doubt and in this way can we build a developing society and eventually, fulfill a bright future. |
