A recent review of pay scales indicates that CEO’s now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times in 1980.
A. that CEO’s now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times B.that, on average, CEO’s now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, a ratio that compares to 42 times C.that, on average, CEO’s now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio D.CEO’s who now earn on average 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio E.CEO’s now earning an average of 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, compared to the ratio of 42 times
答案:C 看了之前NN们的讨论帖,得出结论这里B选项 a ratio that compares to 42 times 不对的原因是,这个42times没有表明是什么times(A 也是),而C表达就很清楚。
那么我想问 ,下面这一题的C选项,compared with about 35% decade ago.
In California today, Hispanics under the age of eighteen account for more than 43%, compared with a decade ago, when it was about 35%.
A.In California today, Hispanics under the age of eighteen account for more than 43%, compared with a decade ago, when it was about 35%
B.Of the Californians under the age of eighteen, today more than 43% of them are Hispanic, compared with a decade ago, when it was about 35%. C.Today, more than 43% of Californians under the age of eighteen are Hispanic, compared with about 35% decade ago. D.Today, compared to a decade ago, Californians who are Hispanics under the age of eighteen account for more than 43%, whereas it was about 35%. E. Today, Hispanics under the age of eighteen in California account for more than 43%, unlike a decade ago, when it was about 35%.

首先,B选项“that, on average, CEO’s now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, a ratio that compares to 42 times” 中要明白,the ration作为同位语指代的是“CEO报酬是工人的419倍”这个比率。所以“that compares to 42 times in 1980”表明的是“‘CEO报酬是工人的419倍NOW’比‘CEO报酬是工人的42倍in 1980’”。
第二,在C选项“that, on average, CEO’s now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio ”之中,要明白as指代的是什么,as用于指代前方的核心概念,这个可能有不同理解,但是我认为的是指“CEO's earn”这件事情。所以“as compared to 42 times their pay"就是说“CEO是工人的419倍,对比,CEO是CEO他们自己的42倍”,其后“the ratio” 是"42 times"的同位语。这时候,问题出现了,“in 1980”你可以试试如何把1980合理地翻译出来,相信你困惑如何翻译的时候,就知道为什么C错了。
以上是我个人的一点意见,仅供参考
