我对状语省略中的一个省略条件要求是"be", 一直很奇怪。

状语从句的省略要求：
第一点是毫无疑问的：逻辑主语等于句子主语
第二点也是必须的：从句的谓语必需是be（没要求主句谓语也必需是be！换句话说状从的省略可以看成是省略了一个be），且从句主语和谓语要么同省，要么同留。

"while studying the genetic makeup of corn”, 这种形式就是主语缩略一下. studying 不是 be studying 的一种缩略，而是表示主动时用studying, 表示被动时用studied.
