Affording strategic proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco was also of interest to the French throughout the first half of the twentieth century because they assumed that if they did not hold it, their grip on Algeria was always insecure.

答案是B. without it their grip on Algeria would never be secure.

从语法上讲，affording修饰的应该是M，但是我觉得意思上应该是F afford... 然后，又开始迷茫了...

看了之前的贴，找到一个翻译：
20世纪前半世纪，为了对S.G.战略上的接近，法国也对M有兴趣，因为法国认为，失去M法国对A.的控制是不可靠的

如果按照上面的翻译，那F就是afford动作的发出者呀...

各种不懂，希望大家能帮助LZ解惑！！！

afford在此处的含义是 to provide and make something available,翻译成中文就是提供，给予。这样的话，就可以明白AFFORD的动作是谁发出来的吧

1)affording 理解为担负更合适，句意理解为，（由于）摩洛哥担负起法国接近G海峡的战略角色，摩洛哥也是法国的兴趣所在。。。。
所以，句首主谓一致。但需高清的是，句子后半部分的逻辑主语是法国，without it their grip on Algeria would never be secure，中their是法国的。
