10. Nations should pass laws to preserve any remaining wilderness areas in their natural state, even if these areas could be developed for economic gain. Obviously, many wilderness areas have vanished or are about to vanish these years. While some are the natural consequences, others are exactly the results of human process, which gives rise to a hot discussion whether it is necessary for nations to pass laws to preserve any remaining wilderness areas in their natural state, even if these areas could be developed for economic gain. As far as I am concerned, I concede that commercial developments are important, however, such developments should undeniably give way to the protection of those wilderness areas.
Admittedly, given that the developments of our modern society cannot live without the modern constructions of the buildings, we can safely draw the conclusion that, under some circumstances, some areas can be developed for economy. On the other hand, with the mass exodus from rural areas to the urban areas, the population of the cities has soured so dramatically that there is a dire need for more buildings to live in. Therefore, the project of reclaiming some wilderness areas should be taken into consideration.
However, reclaiming the wilderness areas would indisputably bring about many side effects. Actually, the harm deriving from doing so will certainly surpass the benefits springing from the same process. To begin with, there exists many endangered and rare species that our human haven’t discovered yet in such wilderness, and reclaiming the wilderness areas will inevitably menace their lives and obstruct the scientific researches on them. For example, chances are high for adventurers to see colorful fireflies in Shangri-la, which is inconceivable in our modern society, let alone any kind of common firefly. Moreover, considering the Darwin so-called “natural selection”, it is no unimpeachable that the “natural selection” is with no exception of our human race and we have to admit that the human process should not be precluded as one of the natural selections. Thus, what we behave would more or less, implicitly or explicitly cast a negative impact on ourselves. For instance, deforestation will cause disastrous sand storm, while over-hunting and over-fishing would correspondingly give rise to irremediable forest fire, reduction of air condition and over-alage, all of which are detrimental to our human race as well as those living animals, especially those endangered species.
In view of the reasons above, nations should pass laws to preserve remaining wilderness areas in their natural state. In this way, we could prevent the scourges mentioned above, at least. To my delight, there are more than three thousand and five hundred protected areas in existence worldwide, including the parks, wildlife refuges and other reserves, which cover the total area of nearly two million square miles, taking up three percent of our total land areas. This example illustrates that our human race are contriving to save any wilderness areas all over the world. Take another example of the Yellowstone National park in America, which was built up in 1872 and where more than 300 different kinds of wildlife live.
Overall, developing wilderness areas for economic gain is truly conducive to the society and the nation. Nevertheless, considering in a long run of development, any nation should pay attention on protecting such wilderness areas, rather than exploiting them. Otherwise, our human race will one day become extinct as a result.
