Admittedly , spending time working outside the academic world in professions related to the courses they teach can bring about many advantages . First of all , as is known to all , practice makes perfect . Actually , it is through practice that one can understand the theory and idea deeply and all-sidely . According to a survey conducted recently , two crowd of people are required to learn one thing given the limited time , while one group are accepting the idea from literal documents , the other group choose to tackle the problem through practice . The result reveals that the people through practice can better understand the things than those merely through literal documents . Secondly , in order to keep pace with the rapid development of society , teachers have to do so , while some knowledge in the textbooks somewhat lags behind . What’s more , teachers who have entered the society working can have a better perception of the society , which is of significant advantages to their students .

However , there still exists some defects if colleges and universities teachers spend too much time working outside . People may advance their reasons as follows . Once teachers choose to work outside the universities , would they still have enthusiasm to teach the students ? In fact , many teachers propelled by the great interest outside the universities are likely to no longer devote much time to teaching , which will give rise to serious problems . Teachers are created to cater the demands of students , as a result , their energy and time should be placed on our students , but not how to work outside the campus . Besides , working outside may more or less , explicitly or implicitly have some bad influence on teaching , for the reason that the working environment may have a lot of clout with some characters such as teaching method , ways to communicate .

Moreover , it is not incumbent upon every teacher to do so , even though the job is related to what they are teaching . Firstly , some top professions like Hawkins , are not necessary to work outside , since their academic field is theoretical speculation , which has not been put into practice yet . Secondly , some teachers act as both the profession and the institution leader , which gives them little spare time to work outside the colleges , instead they need to tackle the problems from the institution .

Overall, it is necessary for educators to find a balance . I concede that working outside the academic world in professions pertaining to the courses they teach is beneficial , however , teachers should place more time on their education as well . Otherwise , what they have done is of no benefit to themselves , nor to their students .
