i guess it's modifying mystic, and it is not subject, but object, in the sentence"this most bland and circumspect of men is a mystic".

不太明白你的意思，不过帮你顶。

我是被OG解释里的主被动句给搞迷糊了。in choices C and D, that is required to introduce the clause x was a mystic这前半句应该是说that在was a mystic后面吧，即was a mystic that,对吗？ if that introduces the second clause, he was guided....这后半句是说that在he was guided前面即that he was guided, 对吗？

这样一来CD应该怎么修改呢？reveal this most bland and circumspect of men was a mystic that and that he was guided in...?

大家参考这个解释吧，我比较认同这样的理解。

这题实际上是倒装结构
大家最关心的guided in …heaven是修饰mystic没错

由reveal that之后的原句应为
A mystic (who was) guided in both public and private life by omens, messages received at seances, and signs from heaven was this most bland and circumspect of men.

至于为什么要倒装，因为我们可以把原句以动词was为界限分为三个部分，
第一部分由A mystic (who was) guided in both public and private life by omens, messages received at seances, and signs from heaven
第二部分为was
第三部分为this most bland and circumspect of men.

很容易可以发现第一部分远较第三部分为长，这不是美国语法所喜欢的，当然符合文法啦，但有头重脚轻的味道，在文学上也不优!
因此会将此种句子作倒装。

所以guided in…heaven是修饰mystic没错。

这个是台湾的莫教授上课说的，他在在语言学上蛮有研究的，所以听他上课有时不会只有听到如何解题，会听到一些语言的来源，anyway，不见的对考GMAT有用啦!不过倒蛮有意思的。

为什么用WAS    ？   我记得A and b 后面跟的谓语应该是复数啊????
