做题时一直在B、C犹豫，最后觉得a group of + verb.(pl.) 更好，就选了C。

查了Longman，a group of其中有两个例句，发现没法确定。
EXP 1.  A group of new houses is to be built on the old playing-field.
EXP 2.  A group of us are going to London.

但有一个解释：group [also + plural verb British English] several people or things that are all together in the same place.

这针对British English，也许没说服力。

不过上面另有一例句觉得与此句很相似。
She is one of a group of women who have suffered severe side-effects from the drug.

相似点：都是a group of +可数名词；后面都是定从修饰；还有一个相似点：
Longman例句：she属于women这个团体中的一个；GWD句：g属于o这个家族，且后面的“more than 230 species”算不算ETS的一种暗示？

我仍坚持选C，请NN指点！

还有一个感觉，觉得谓语单复数与强调的重点有关。

上面的exp1感觉在强调一些房子的建造，并不想突出个体；而exp2想说我们几个人去L。最后一个例句同样因为强调she是一大群已受影响的women中的一个，所以用have。

如果要用includes，我觉得这句这样改也许更合适：
...the graveteiro belongs to the ovenbird family, a group of New World tropical birds,（添逗号表示同位语插入，includes接the family） that includes...

另外，如果此句用include，ETS可以更清晰地表达她的考点：belongs与is平行。

请注意a group of的不同含义.

a group of如果作为一个词组来看，意思是一群, 用来修饰复数名词, 类似a number of, 表示多. Group本身没有什么实际的含义, 只是表示数量.

但是这道题里面的group是family的同位语, 表示生物学上的种类, 有实际的含义, 并不是说有一群鸟, 而是一种鸟. 从逻辑上看, a group包含了多种species, 非常合理.

所以用单数, 选B.

我同意你说的这里a group of不是说一群，而是“一个种群”。但包括LM上面的例句也并没有明确此种情况后面一定是加单数谓语而不是复数啊。再者，如果你认为是同位语插入，那就如我22楼叙述的用逗号隔开that结构会更清楚（OG中例子比较多），但这里并没有逗号分隔。或许ETS出题的原意并非如此？

paopaoGG or DD, 你举的MW的第3个解释或许不如它第2个解释更符合此句：a number of individuals assembled together or having some unifying relationship。但不管何种解释，也都没法证明后面的谓语是单or复数。

Collective nouns will usually be singular in Sentence Correction sentences.

A中that之后的includes和were单复数不一致。我开始也用这个来排除，后来发现不行，还是b比较正确。做题做多了，都不知道这个that是不是可以省略还是必须添加了
