72:
In this letter, the author refutes theclaim that the majority of competent workers suffer from serious economic hardship, often for years. To justify his refutation, the author provides a recent reportto prove that the good employment situation. In addition, he also points out thattwo-thirds of the newly created jobs have been in industries that tend to payabove-average wages. A careful examination of the letter would reveal how groundlessthe author’s refutation is. In the first place, the author provides noevidence to show a clear employment situation present, since he just point outthe lowest level in decades with a vague time point-since 1999. It is possiblethat the average unemployment rate from 1999 to present reach the lowest level, however the unemployment rate for recent two or three years keeps high. Even ifthe unemployment rate since 1999 keeps low, if the unemployment rate inElthyrian still much higher than the average level of nation, the employmentsituation is still tough. In the second place, the author assume thatsatisfying treatment of the two-thirds of the newly created jobs represents thatall the newly created jobs offer a desirable treatment, this cannot be thecase. Although, two-thirds is a large proportion of the whole one, theone-third part should not be ignored hastily. Perhaps, the left jobs coincidewith the job with poor treatment, and most of which are part-time jobs. So the entireemployment situation can still be unsatisfied. Thirdly, the most serious flaw in theauthor’s reputation is the shortage of information about the major fields withhigh unemployment rate. Even if the entire employment situation gets muchbetter, and the newly created jobs are mostly well treated, the claim in thearticle can be true. Perhaps most unemployed workers are concentrated in theindustries which suffer from slump. Since the newly industries enjoy aflourishing development, the guess is not unreasonable. To conclude, the author provides anunconvinced reputation. In order to make a forceful reputation, the authorshould provide evidence to show the employment situation keeps in good staterecent years, and all the fields benefit from it. Furthermore, it would be morereliable if the author proves that most newly created jobs are available forthe unemployed workers and offer a desirable treatment. |
