113) The following is a recommendation from the personnel director to the president of Acme Publishing Company.
Many other companies have recently stated that having their employees take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course has greatly improved productivity. One graduate of the course was able to read a 500-page report in only two hours; another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in under a year. Obviously, the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb in a single workday. Moreover, Easy Read would cost Acme only $500 per employee—a small price to pay when you consider the benefits. Included in this fee is a three-week seminar in Spruce City and a lifelong subscription to the Easy Read newsletter. Clearly, to improve productivity, Acme should require all of our employees to take the Easy Read course.
Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the advice and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the advice.

In this recommendation, the writer recommends the president of Acme to require all of their employees to take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course in order to improve productivity. Based on the assumption that two graduates' achievements that one can read very fast and another rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in a short time are owed to their taking the Easy Read. In addition, the writer assumes that the price of each employee to take the course is worthy. Though it seems reasonable at first glance, however, some following questions need to be answered.

In the first place, the writer seems to assume that from the experiences of the two graduates of the Easy Readd Speed-Reading Course , taking the course is worthy. However, on one hand, whether the graduate's achievement that rose from an assistant manager to vice president in such a short time is owed to his taking the course? It is questionable. Since it is very possible that the graduate is originally excellent that even if he didn't take the course, he could achieve it. On the other hand,  how many information that the graduate actually absorbed reading 500-page report in two hours? It is possible that the graduate was only reading fast without absorbing any useful information, thus it is not necessary that the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb in a single workday, consequently, it is not necessary that taking the course can improve the productivity.

In the second place, the writer assumes that considering the benefits, $500 per employee to take the course is worthy. However, does $500 include all the fees? How many employees in Acme? It is very possible $500 only refers to tuition fee and maybe the course requires another kinds of fees such as reading material fee and so on. Furthermore, if there are numerous employees in Acme, the total amount of fees to take the course is not a small price at all, then may lead to the company's great financial burden. Thus the price to take the course isn't necessarily worthy.

Finally, the writer makes an assumption that the fact the information about a three-week seminar in Spruce City and a lifelong subscription to the Easy Read newsletter included in $500 can be an evidence to prove that the price is worthy. However, is the information useful? It is suspicious. It is very possible that those information are just to make an advertisement and the real goal of those information is to attract people to take the course. Thus it should be considered more carefully whether it is worthy to take the course.

In conclusion, can the two graduates' achievement prove that taking the course can improve productivity? Is it worthy to pay for $500 per employee to take the course? The answers of these questions above lead this recommendation to a questionable one.

总体上很好。还有这种course可能对一些基础好的人有用,对基础不好的人可能是极大的浪费。
