The given answer is D.  The first time I did it, I picked C.  When I listened again, I felt that D also made sense.  The key here is what does the word "that" refer to in the M's last sentence.  If "that" means "go over to the dean’s and sign up", then C is the right answer.  If "that" means "to return the book ", then D is right.  What do you think?
