prep笔记的解释：

(A) unlike连接比较对象不平行，cities和river。
(B) which指代United States错误，应该指代river。
(C) unlike一般不置于句中，容易产生对比歧义；it指代错误，在逻辑上不能指代前面的river。
(D)去掉no longer，把全部否定变成部分否定，改变了原句意思。
(E)正确，but连接并列的分句，不需要形式上完全对等。

看了好多有关的帖子，大家的共识都是prep笔记的解释，但是我想问的是，which不是不能修饰地点么？US的定语从句应该用where引导吧？如果which不能修饰US，那这个题里的B答案中，which跳跃修饰a river没错吧？

1）这里B中的which，从语法角度上的话，是就近指代了US，跳不了到river；如果你要使用which修饰地点的话，需要使用on which/in which等
2）B中的硬伤，属于Unlike指代对象不明显，忽略其他问题的话，Unlike a river...the river in SA；而不能把In SA置于the river前
3）the river in many cities in US；这里的两个介词，我觉得读起来很awkward，如果说是the river在美国很多城市的话，那么the river in many cities of US会更优些

B里的which指的是US，但原句里面where指代的是US cities，不是一个东西。

which是不能指代地点但是可以指代国家啊 还是有歧义
