如果用了on it,那么把B补全了就成了Because the second exam had fewer mistakes on it then the first exam on it.这里两个it都指代the second exam,所以错.根据前面某楼的说法,如果补错了就选不补的,所以选A.

我觉得补全有两种可能，

Because the second exam had fewer mistakes on it than the second exam had fewer mistakes on the first

Because the second exam had fewer mistakes on it than did the first  

B补出了谓语，避免了这个问题。另外，B没有补错。
