简直郁闷.

Comets grow tails only when they get warm enough for ice and dust to boil off. As a comet's orbit brings it closer to the Sun, first the coma grows, then two distinct tails usually form. One, the less common kind, contains electrically charged (i.e., ionized) atoms of gas,

which are blown off directly in the direction away from the Sun by the magnetic field of the solar wind. The other tail is made of neutral dust particles, which get gently pushed back by the pressure of the sunlight itself. Unlike the ion tail, which is straight, the dust tail becomes curved as the particles follow their own orbits around the Sun.

问distinct  的同义词:

答案有1. visible  2. gaseous 3. separate 4. new   答案为3.

我觉得都不好.  这里的distinct 应该解释为different 会比较好一点.   在现有的答案里面, 我在1. 3里面徘徊, 最后选了1.

感觉是: 如果说sth is distinct, 有个意思是it can be clearly seen, heard, smell, etc.  separate 有点沾边, 但感觉不爽.

大家是怎么样想的?

可能是我对separate 的理解太片面了.   老把separate 想成"分开的",  所以有点转不过来.  其实separate 也有different 的意思啦.   

不过distinct 也有清楚的,清晰的 意思呀.   昏呀昏......

distinct 这个词除了"清晰的"之外, 还有"截然不同"的意思.  它的这一层意思特别强调两个或多个物体是极容易被区分开的.

这种题要特别注意被考察的词汇之后文中都讲了些什么.  从这里来看,  剩下的篇幅在大讲慧星的尾巴.  第一条尾巴是直的,  第二条是弯的.  最贴近这些内容的词就是separate 了.

如果作者想强调visible 这层意思的话,  他大概会讲一些这尾巴看上去象个什么呀,  或者呈现什么颜色呀之类的话.

哈哈,  最后一个小 tip..   

一个比较粗糙的区分方法,  要讲"截然不同",  必定涉及两个或两个以上物体.  就比如此例中的 two tails.

如果说什么东西清晰可见,  举例说,  This flower has distinct color.  单个物体即可.  当然复数也可(下面详细介绍).

所以,  见到distinct 和数词同处一句的时候,  大胆一点,  就往"截然不同"上想就行.

The flowers have distinct color.            这些花的颜色很醒目.

The flowers have distinct colors.           这里可能有两种意思.   可能是在强调颜色都很清晰亮丽(醒目), 也可能是在强调这些花的颜色对比很强烈(不同).  这里你能发现这两种意思在这一句里有互相融合的感觉.

The two flowers have distinct colors.           这两种花的颜色不同.

我想通过这个例子,  可以让大家更好地了解distinct 这个词.   不过纯属一家之言.
